Project Highlight: Cameron Park Zoo Penguin + Cat Exhibit

City of Waco

The Penguin Shores exhibit at Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas, opened on August 8, 2024, after 18 months of construction and a $12.8 million investment. It features 22 South African black-footed penguins and Smidgen, a black-footed cat, in thoughtfully designed enclosures with a pool, rock structure, and shaded plaza. During the build, the zoo utilized TrueLook’s 4K PTZ Camera to capture real-time progress. These cameras allowed zoo officials and contractors to remotely view construction, ensuring the complex structures were completed efficiently.

TrueLook’s 4K PTZ Cameras documented the exhibit’s vibrant transformation, which includes stunning South African-inspired murals created in collaboration with Creative Waco’s ArtPrenticeship program. High school students and community members painted these vibrant designs across the exhibit, adding artistic flair to the buildings, poles, and gates. The camera’s panoramic capabilities provided detailed footage of this unique artistic process, from the installation of the murals to the final touches on the penguins’ state-of-the-art home.
